Congratulations to the following members that obtained their designation in 2023
Louay Saleem Alalawi

Louay Saleem Alalawi, BSc. And MSc. Degree in the Architectural Engineering field. Practiced Architectural design, Construction Management and Building Envelope design within many international consultancy firms in the Gulf region for more than 15 years. Worked within the curtain wall industry in Ontario, Canada since 2017, as a curtain wall designer, design manager and Sr. job captain, involved in curtain wall design; producing the installation details, ensuring the implementation of building science principles, in addition to supervising the curtain wall frames fabrication and installation methods / strategies.

Jelena Madzarevic

Jelena is a Building and Material Sciences Specialist with EllisDon. Her focus is to support project teams with navigating technical challenges and envelope-related risks across Canada. Her approach is to combine sound building science principles with the complex reality of construction. This includes informing technical decisions during the early project phases, tendering of envelope scopes and site planning (sequencing, mockups etc.).She also supports company-wide development by delivering building science training and technical guidelines. Jelena has a Master’s in Building Science from Toronto Metropolitan University and is a Certified Passive House Consultant (PHIUS) and Building Science Specialist (BSS). 

Sydney Van Bakel

Sydney Van Bakel is a graduate of the Architectural Conservation and Sustainability Engineering Program at Carleton University and joined the Building Science Department at Cleland Jardine Engineering Ltd. in 2021. Sydney has worked on a variety of building envelope restoration projects, providing design, contract administration and field review services. In addition, she regularly participated in visual investigations and destructive testing within cladding systems to diagnose building envelope problems across the commercial, institutional, and residential sectors.
